TL;DR
- Creator earnings are taxable income in the US even if no form shows up.
- OnlyFans’ tax policy and 1099 help text, dated 25 November 2025, still say a US creator who earned and withdrew more than $600 gets a 1099. A copy is mailed to the W-9 address and can be downloaded from Banking.
- The IRS says the 1099-NEC reporting threshold for payments made in 2026 is $2,000. For payments before 2026 it was $600. Income under the threshold is still taxed.
- OnlyFans does not withhold US income tax in the policy we read. Self-employed creators handle income tax and self-employment tax, often through quarterly estimates.
- This is general US information, not advice for your return. A tax professional in your state should see the actual statements.
OnlyFans’ tax policy says the company is not responsible for advising users on their tax affairs, and not liable for a creator’s unpaid tax. Nothing on this page changes that. Read the
disclaimer.
What OnlyFans says it will and will not do
- You file and you pay tax on creator earnings.
- Some countries require a tax ID in Banking before a withdrawal is allowed. The policy says that if it is required and you skip it, you cannot withdraw.
- OnlyFans may have to send identity details and earnings figures to a local tax authority. It says the share is limited to what the law requires.
- UK creators may have a separate VAT registration duty. VAT, if charged, is paid apart from creator earnings. That is a different regime from US income tax.
The 1099 threshold does not match

For 1099-NEC payments made in 2026, the payer’s reporting threshold is $2,000. Before 2026 it was $600. Backup withholding is reported at any amount. |
That OnlyFans has updated its help text. As of the 25 November 2025 wording, it had not. |
Use the form if it arrives, and use your Statements if it does not. Where to download it, and what to do with the numbers, is the 1099 page. What people try to deduct is tax write-offs, which is narrower than a list of receipts.
Self-employment tax, in outline
The IRS treats this kind of creator income as self-employment income, not wages. There is no W-2 in the OnlyFans policy. Self-employment tax is the Social Security and Medicare tax on net earnings from self-employment. The IRS describes the combined rate as 15.3% (12.4% Social Security plus 2.9% Medicare), with the Social Security portion limited by the annual wage base, which the IRS updates. You generally also pay income tax on the profit. If you expect to owe $1,000 or more for the year, the IRS expects quarterly estimated payments.
Those rates are the IRS framework, not a bill we calculated for you. Your state may add income tax. The calculator on this site does not file a return.
