TL;DR
- Fans subscribe, tip, buy PPV, and message. Creators set prices. OnlyFans takes 20%; creators keep 80%.
- FY2025: $7.765B gross fan payments, $6.3B paid to creators, $1.55B platform net revenue.
- Registered accounts are not users. 132M fans were active out of 437M registered; 2.5M creators were active out of 5.0M.
- Discovery mostly happens off-platform (social, Linktree, direct). On-site search is secondary.
The product in one sentence
OnlyFans lets a verified creator sell access to a private feed — plus tips, locked posts, and custom requests — to fans who pay through the platform.
The money flow
- A fan pays (subscription, tip, PPV, or message purchase).
- OnlyFans processes the payment and retains ~20%.
- The creator receives ~80% on the payout schedule, subject to verification and compliance holds.
Creator payout ≈ fan payment × 0.8
In FY2025 that produced about $7.765B GMV and $6.3B in stated creator payouts. The 80% of $7.765B is $6.21B; the company said $6.3B paid — a small timing/adjustment gap, not a different take rate.
What creators actually sell
- Subscriptions — monthly access, typically $4.99–$49.99.
- PPV / locked posts — one-off content prices on top of (or instead of) the sub.
- Tips — voluntary payments, often during livestreams or chats.
- Custom / messages — paid DMs and commissions. Industry chatter treats chat as the economic core; Fenix does not publish an official mix for FY2025.
That is why the tenure puzzle matters: $58.83 of annual GMV per active fan is less than twelve months of a $7.21 “average subscription.” Realised spend is not list price × 12.
Accounts, fans, creators
Fenix counts accounts. In FY2025 it also disclosed actives:
| Side | Registered | Active | Activity rate |
| Fans | 437M | 132M | 30.2% |
| Creators | 5.0M | 2.5M | 50% |
The live marketplace ratio is 52.8 active fans per active creator, not the ~87:1 registered ratio. See user statistics.
How people find creators
OnlyFans is weak at cold discovery by design. Creators bring audiences from Instagram, TikTok, X, Reddit, Linktree, or offline fame. Panel traffic for onlyfans.com is heavily direct (~59% in Semrush July 2026). Organic Google still sends tens of millions of visits, but most paying behaviour follows an off-platform funnel.
Trust, KYC, and moderation
Creators go through identity verification. Content is monitored; the company relies on a small employee base (47 in FY2025) plus a large contractor moderation layer (~1,500 cited in press). Payment processors and regulators (e.g. Ofcom age-assurance scrutiny) are the external constraints on the business model.
What “working” does not mean
Working as a platform ≠ working as a career for every account. Half of creator accounts were inactive in FY2025. The mean active creator received about $2,520. Lifetime millionaires: 5,076 — 0.20% of active creators.
